Joel Madden Named Son Sparrow to Make His Life Difficult

November 5th, 2009

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden could have named their son something simple like John, Tom or Chris, but they figured they’d give him a unique name like “Sparrow” instead to make his life more difficult.

Nicole gave birth to the couples son in September and they knew he would live a privileged life so they decided to make his life a little more complicated.

Joel said: “It reminded me of the Johnny Cash song ‘A Boy Named Sue’. My worry raising a son in Hollywood is, what will he have to struggle for? I wanted to give him a name that he’s going to have to stand up for. I love it, I think it’s a beautiful name.”

Joel also says he’s a amazed at how dedicated Nicole is to raising their family.

He told Britain’s OK! magazine: “While I’m working, it all piles on Nicole. She takes care of the kids, and it never gets to her. She doesn’t feel like she’s giving up anything – she is whole heartedly their mom.”

Nicole isn’t just busy being a full time mom. The trendy star is busy working on her upcoming fashion line Winter Kate, which should be available sometime next year.

Nicole Richie Is Not Joel Madden’s Diamond Girl

December 22nd, 2008

Joel Madden isn’t giving girlfriend Nicole Richie diamonds for Christmas, E! Online’s Marc Malkin reports .
Believe it or not, the Good Charlotte rocker insists, the fabulously fashionable former reality-TV star is completely OK with that.
“I have no clue right now what I’m getting her, but I think it’s going to have to be creative,” Madden told me earlier today. “She appreciates more of the creative rather than something like a diamond. She’s not really into diamonds.”
As for baby daughter Harlow, who turns 1 on Jan. 11, Santa’s going to be earth-friendly. “Nicole is very organic, so probably a lot of organic toys like wooden blocks,” Madden said.

They’re planning on having a low-key holiday with family and friends at home in Los Angeles. In fact, Madden said he’s turned down many offers to deejay out-of-town New Year’s parties. “I’d have to bring Nicole and the baby, so it would have to be a pretty amazing deal for me to leave,” he said. “I deejay all the time, but New Year’s is one of those things where I want to be with my family.”

Christmas and 2009 aren’t the only celebrations happening for the Madden clan right now.
Madden and his brother Benji are throwing a party at their DCMA clothing store in L.A. to launch their debut footwear line, K-DCMA.

The line, produced in conjunction with K-Swiss, is just a natural progression of building their streetwear brand. The slip-on and laced sneakers feature their signature designs of skulls and graffiti. “We have some of the best graffiti artists in the world,” Madden said. “We have all sorts of people who have been involved in helping design for our company. It’s more of a collaborative, collective effort.”
DCMA doesn’t come with Hollywood prices. “Everything’s at a good price point where everybody can afford it,” Madden boasted. “Kids can actually afford the stuff and enjoy it.”
But don’t look for Richie to be sportin’ the goods. “She loves DCMA, but it’s not her style,” Madden said with a laugh. “We’ll leave the heels to Christian Louboutin.”
Accessories like bookbags may be next for DCMA.
How about a fragrance? Madden laughed, “Uh, maybe a body spray.”

Nicole Richie’s African adoption

December 22nd, 2008

Nicole Richie and her boyfriend Joel Madden want to adopt.

Joel – who already has an 11-month-old daughter, Harlow, with Nicole – has revealed the pair would love to extend their family.

The Good Charlotte rocker said: “I’m definitely not against adopting. I went to the Central African Republic and fell in love with the place. If I was going to adopt, it would probably be from there.

“Nicole and I are very happy and eventually we’d love to have more kids, especially if they can all be as easy and wonderful as Harlow!”

Adoption reports first surfaced in October, when it was claimed the couple wanted to give an underprivileged child a home.

Nicole was said to have developed an interest after meeting low income families through her charity The Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation.

The couple’s daughter turns one on January 11, and busy mother Nicole says her time is taken up balancing raising Harlow and her career.

The 27-year-old star explained: “I’ve really been working hard – going on auditions for acting, doing design for my line, and being a mom – so that pretty much takes up my days.”
